Despite their success in LPL 2024 Summer Placements, Anyone’s Legend are still underappreciated. Even though their combined record of 9-1 includes mostly victories against weaker teams, they also defeated Ninjas in Pyjamas twice in June.

Ninjas in Pyjamas will have side choice for this series, which gives them a slight advantage. They are also stacked with elite-tier players, but while many things work in NiP’s favour, they’re still an unreliable team.

This could be a very competitive series, but Anyone’s Legend won against NiP last month and proved to be the better team. A 2-0 sweep is a realistic possibility and worth a smaller wager.

ThunderTalk Gaming retained their roster for the LPL 2024 Summer season but made some changes to the coaching personnel, adding Xiao “Vlone” Chu-Yu as a new analyst. But with Chou “AFei” Cheng-Ting staying put and no new player arrivals, those changes don’t move the needle too much.

Last split, ThunderTalk had their moments. However, even though they didn’t have any critical weaknesses, they also struggled in some areas of the game — mainly in the transition from early to mid.

FunPlus Phoenix have kept all their players from last split and made just one change with the arrival of top laner Zhao “TheNiu” Yong-Zhuo, who might not even start. Keeping the roster together is a reasonable move, as FPX had a very strong run though the first split before they fell apart in the playoffs.

FunPlus Phoenix looked a bit raw in the spring, but this is an excellent squad with huge upside. This squad will surprise many by the end of the season, but they’ll likely need some time to get going, so we’ll tame our expectations for their LPL 2024 Summer Placements opener.

Team WE have been playing well this split and have won five of eight series played. Their three defeats came against Oh My God, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and JD Gaming, who beat them 2-1 on Tuesday.

Over that stretch, they had to play tough opponents in JD Gaming, Bilibili Gaming, FunPlus Phoenix, and Top Esports, so seeing them do better against RNG isn’t that surprising.

Ultra Prime are 2-7, and even though they won their last game against Rare Atom earlier this week, they’ve not shown much. Even against Rare Atom, Ultra Prime failed to impress despite having side choice, which is concerning.

LNG Esports have had their fair share of struggles, and they’re not yet playing at 100%. However, even in their current state, LNG should run over Ultra Prime, who have given us nothing to feel excited about.

EDward Gaming played their first good game of the split on Sunday when they beat Anyone’s Legend in two maps, and they didn’t look too bad earlier this week in a three-map loss against Oh My God.

In both series, EDward Gaming fielded top laner Hu “Ale” Jia-Le and jungler Wang “Monki” Meng-Qi, who were called up to the main roster at the end of LPL 2024 Spring Week 4. We also got to see support Wang “Xiamu” Yong-Xu in the first game against OMG, but it’s unclear whether he’ll start on Saturday.

Rare Atom found some traction in LPL 2024 Spring Week 4 after a rough start to the season, with wins against ThunderTalk Gaming and Royal Never Give Up. But they returned to their old ways with a 0-2 loss against Ultra Prime on Wednesday.

Ultra Prime and LGD Gaming look like two of the worst teams in the league, and as the betting odds suggest, there isn’t much to separate them. But knowing they’re both prone to making mistakes and not efficient in closing out games, this is one of the few games that can extend over the total kill line.

Top Esports lost against Bilibili Gaming on Monday, but they showed some resistance, won the second map, and had their chances to win the third. That game proved nothing besides the fact that Bilibili Gaming is a very strong team.

EDward Gaming rebuilt their line-up for the 2024 season, now fielding a much weaker roster compared to 2023. It’s unlikely that this team will accomplish much this season, and while there is some potential for growth with younger players, it’ll take a while before EDG becomes competitive.

Oh My God are a competitive team, but their lack of consistency and their tendency to play down to an opponent’s level are concerning. This was very noticeable last week when OMG played well against Top Esports (1-2) but then lost to ThunderTalk Gaming (0-2). And if we look further back, they dropped maps against FunPlus Phoenix (1-2) and LGD Gaming (1-2).

Oh My God are not a team you would want to bet on as heavy favourites. But does that make Anyone’s Legend a good bet?

At $4.33 with GG Bet, Anyone’s Legend are given a 23.1% implied probability of winning. However, they have looked competitive even against stronger teams in the latter half of the regular season.

Betting on Anyone’s Legend with a map handicap isn’t a bad choice, but taking over 25.5 kills makes more sense. Since patch 13.12, the average kills per game in the LPL has risen significantly (around +3), and this is a match between two teams who aren’t afraid to fight. Both teams also suffer bad losses, so we can expect a bloody game regardless of the outcome.

Team WE’s split so far has been a rollercoaster, but their performance metrics are decent, so it’s tough to say what’s happening with this team. They crushed Top Esports (2-0), lost against LNG Esports (0-2), played a solid game against EDward Gaming (1-2), got humiliated by LGD Gaming (0-2), won against Rare Atom (0-2), and lost against Royal Never Give Up (1-2) on Saturday.

It’s hard to much from that run, but it’s fair to be cautiously optimistic about what Team WE can produce in the LPL Summer playoffs. However, even though Team WE have proven they can play solid League, they should be outclassed in this one.

JD Gaming are by far the best team in the LPL, and their shock loss against Invictus Gaming (1-2) on Sunday doesn’t change that. Some might see it as a sign of JDG not playing at 100% anymore, but they were due to lose one.

That defeat didn’t move the line one bit, and nor should it. JD Gaming need this win to secure a top-two finish, so expect a strong performance.
